- Harvard Centre for International Development
The Harvard CID is extremely well-repected in the areas of international development. Recent areas of concentration in the centre include research projects in the issues of geography & development, globalisation, information technology & develpment and the environment & sustainable development.
- Centre d'études Prospectives et d'Informations Internationales
The Centre d'études Prospectives et d'Informations Internationales is France's main centre for the study of international economics. The site provides access to their very good working papers as well as an international trade database (CHELEM).
- Institute for International Economics
Based in D.C., this small think-tank attracts some of the most prominent international economists in the field. An excellent source of policy memos on international economics issues.
- Institute of International Finance
A more commercial counterpart to the IIE, it engages in research more pertinent to banking and finance, especially with respect to international capital markets.
- Institute of International Economic Studies
Sweden has had a shining history of churning out economists. The IIES, together with the Stockholm Institute of Transition Economics, continues this proud tradition.
- Kiel Institute of Internatinal Economics
Kiel hosts some of the world's best academics in the field of international economics, often on short-term sabbaticals. The site provides access to this research.
- Study Center Gerzensee
The Swiss Study Center Gerzensee is a foundation of Swiss National Bank for the training of central bankers, commercial bankers and doctoral students. It organises yearly courses for doctoral students in various fields, including international economics and finance, featuring prominent faculty members.
- National Bureau of Economic Research
The NBER is a primary source of economics working papers on the web; it generates thousands of paper every year, on subjects ranging from microeconomics to macroeconomics and everything in between. Most of the papers are available for download; these are free for developing countries.
- Centre for Economic Policy Research
The CEPR an European economics research network. It's research is generally policy-oriented and ranges from global financial crises to international trade policy, and Europe-centric research. Many of the Centre's discussion papers are available on site, and its Bulletin and European Economics Perspectives newsletter are free.
- The Brookings Institute
Everyone has heard of Brookings. The Institute is multi-disciplinary, and, together with RAND, are two of the most prominent multi-disciplinary think tanks in the US.
- American Enterprise Institute
The AEI is another public policy think tank that addresses, among its other areas of expertise, economics and trade issues. It adopts an approach that emphasises its aim to "preserving and strengthening the foundations of freedom". The AEI also collaborates with Brookings in the AEI-Brookings Joint Centre.
- Santa Fe Institute
The SFI is another multidisciplinary institute, working on issues at the edges of physics, biology, and economics. Of particular interest to economists would be the computational economics programme and the studies on dynamics in games.
- Wiener Institut für Internationale Wirtschaftsvergleiche
The Vienna Institute for International Economic Studies' area of focus is Central and Eastern Europe. Most of the facilities on the site are chargeable, although it does make recent working papers available for download.
